There are the obvious summer fashion trends like colorful shorts and straw hats, but then there are the monumental trends that are cooked up during fashion weeks in Paris, Milan, London and NYC—whether spotted on catwalks or street style. Yet for us fashion fanatics, basic just won’t cut it. We thought of fixing that for you, but listing five creative ideas to spice up your summer outfits.

Colorful Tartan

This trend has been an eye-catcher since the beginning of time. The instant sophistication it brings to any outfit is second to none in the fashion world. We mostly picture it on pants in shades of black and gray, but this season, it has been reborn into full suits and bold color combinations, such as green and yellow or blue and red.

Teeny Tiny Bags

This is definitely original. Somehow, while our iPhones have gotten bigger in size, miniature bags have simultaneously become a thing. We’re not sure what it’s meant to carry exactly—perhaps your lip-gloss and keys, however that’s about it. Brushing usefulness aside, we have to admit they are pretty cute.

Lavender Tones

The royalty vibe that this shade gives off is probably what makes this our favorite trend of all. We recommend you wear it as a blazer or a dress. These looks are definitely in right now. Not to mention, there’s the fact that lavender will compliment any skin tone.

Utility Outfits

While this trend seems a little masculine, it is actually flattering on almost any woman’s body shape. It mainly comes in the shape of oversized pants, jackets or boiler suits, and is very comfortable to wear. Combine it with a fancy belt and shoes, and you’re good to head out the door.

Tie-Dye

Embraced at Dior, Prada and Stella McCartney catwalks, tie-dye is officially back in style. We tend to think ‘hippie fashion’ when we see tie-dye, yet many brands have been adding a modern take on it by using light, silky fabric or layering it with floral prints and fun studs to make it pop. Instead of just t-shirts, you will now see it on dresses, pants, shoes, bags and more.
