Paying homage to the environmental struggles our planet faces today, The King’s Mother launched its latest SS’18 Collection, Tectonic. The additions of earthly tones lend a fanciful energy to this jet-set collection. White and beige contrasted with darker tones, such as dark denim, olive and black, are used to reflect the colors and textures found in nature’s ordinary state. The collection is modern and crisp – a fresh departure from the usual brightly colored spring/summer presentations. It offers a collection of blazers decorated with graphic artwork against a natural background that is powerful and feminine at the same time.

The inspiration is derived from imagery of disturbances that affect Earth, which is depicted throughout the collection through graphic artwork digitally printed onto the fabric, as well as textured fabrics, such as cracked leather and lined crepe.

To emphasize the manifestation of climate change, the collection’s silhouettes are all about subtly deconstructing the form of the blazer through dramatic ruffle sleeves, illustrating waves and pleating techniques, in addition to graceful paneling to represent flowing of air. The contrast of color and texture are also very real and dramatic.

Lush yet simple, smart yet soft, Tectonic is a subtle tribute to what we’re witnessing nowadays happening around us, expressed as a silent nod towards awareness.
