For those of you flying to watch our match against Saudi Arabia up close, we’ve got your plans for the trip covered. While Volgograd might not be the city you would normally opt for when you’re on vacation, it still has some virtues to look forward to. We made it our job to pinpoint them and show you the silver lining.
Volgograd has a general modern feel to it but it doesn’t lack in history and culture by any means. It is actually known and esteemed as the city that was able to stand firm and resist the Germans in the beginning of the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II – considered one of the largest battles in history.
Match info:
The match will be at 4 pm on the 25th of June at the Volgograd Arena.
Where to celebrate if we win/where to drown your sorrows if we lose:
Mama Norka l Papa Bober
Despite its weird name, which means “mom’s a mink and dad’s a beaver” and while it doesn’t look anything like your typical bar, this place is praised for quality steaks and drinks. It’s also known for hosting live entertainment regularly.
Interesting things to do:
- The most fun thing you can probably do is to take a cruise or a speedboat ride in the Volga river.
- Go see the Volga–Don canal that connects a total of five seas: the Black Sea, Azov Sea, Caspian Sea, Baltic Sea and the White Sea. The view is most probably worth it.
- For historical sites, visit Mamai Hill, the biggest monument ever been built in memory of WWII soldiers. While you’re there, you’ll see 200 steps representing the number of days that the Battle of Stalingrad lasted.
- Another place most tourists visit is the Volgograd State Panoramic Museum, which exhibits the heroic past of the Stalingrad Battle. It’s on the list because it’s touristic and some people may find it interesting but we honestly can’t guarantee that you’ll have the time of your life there.
