Given the amount of anticipation building up regarding our upcoming match against Russia in this year’s World Cup series, we figure many Egyptians will want front row seats to the real show. If you are planning to fly to Saint Pete, here is what you need to know about the city before you go.

Not only is it considered one of the most beautiful, romantic cities in Europe, but we’ve also come to find out that the time around which you’ll be travelling there will be the most felicitous. Why, you ask? You get to experience what locals call the “white nights”, where the arctic sun almost never sets, giving more life to an already bright-eyed and bushy-tailed city.

Match info:

The match will be at 8 pm on the 19th of June at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.

Where to celebrate if we win/where to drown your sorrows if we lose:

Khroniki Bar

This bar has a classic theme of traditional wine bars from the early 20th century Leningrad, another name for Saint Petersburg after the Soviet Revolution and this translates into high tables, clear ashtrays and a herring sandwich on their menu. Their recommended and most popular cocktail is Free Ingria.

Interesting things to do:

  • Invest in a cruise in the Neva River at night and watch the Neva Bridges open. The view is so gorgeous to the extent that people have started dubbing Saint Pete “the Venice of the North”.
  • Take walks around the city with your camera and take in the luxury of Tsarist period. Make sure to hit the baroque palaces, royal gardens and the beautiful parks in Pushkin and Pavlovsk.
  • Revel in the contemporary art scene at the Loft Project ETAGI, a creative space full of galleries, bookstores and hip cafes, or at New Holland Island, an impressive visual and performing arts space.
