Let’s just take a moment to celebrate Egypt’s third World Cup qualification. We made it! For anyone who doesn’t know, we’re set to start off with a match against Uruguay in the Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Countless Egyptians will be flying there to champion our players like the faithful and passionate nation that we are. In fact, the marketing director of Prime Tours Group claims that around ten thousand Egyptian fans are expected to attend the Egypt matches this World Cup.

What Yekaterinburg offers is a modern flair on historic grounds. Interestingly enough, it’s where the last tsar of the Romanov family, Russia’s last royal family, was executed along with his family. Aside from that, the city is known for its beautiful unique architecture, and its vibrant art and local music scene.

Despite being situated on the eastern side of the Ural Mountains, you don’t get the mountain view experience you would hope for because the old mountains are now only as tall as 300-400m. You have to get outside the center of city life if you want to revel in their beauty, which we definitely recommend that you do. For the most impressive view, take the train from Perm back to Yekaterinburg or take a trip to Gora Yezhovaya (90km north from Yekaterinburg) or Gora Belaya near the town of Nizhni Tagil (170 km from Yekaterinburg).

Match info:

The match will be at 2 pm on the 15th of June at the Central Stadium.

Where to celebrate if we win/where to drown your sorrows if we lose:

Press House Loft Bar and Gallery

They host gigs by local talents and art exhibitions during the day, and have the ideal festive atmosphere for parties by night. Not only that, but we checked and they definitely screen World Cup matches if you’re planning on staying a few more days in the city and not exactly willing to invest another month’s salary in another match ticket.

Interesting things to do:

  • Like you would throw a coin to make a wish at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, Yekaterinburg offers you a massive stone keyboard to type your wish in and hit enter!

  • If you’re a music fan, go to one of the city’s music festivals such as Ural Music Night.

  • If you’re a theater fan, make sure to visit the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, one of the most esteemed theaters in Russia. You can tell how prestigious it is just by looking at its photos online.

  • Head to Chapaevskiye Bani for a relaxed afternoon in a traditional Russian banya, aka sauna or steam bath.

  • Take photos by a cool monument. You will find monuments for the iconic Beatles, the Lumiere Brothers, our favorite cinematic pioneers, and even the founders of the city, Vasily Tatishchev and Georg Wilhelm de Gennin.
