Anticipation and excitement took over the hearts of football fanatics in Egypt as the fourth FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola landed in Cairo on Thursday, March 15, in Egypt as part of its global tour, for a two-day visit filled with festivities in the country.
The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy arrived on a special chartered plane carrying a FIFA delegation including FIFA Chief Commercial Officer, Philippe Le Floc’h, and former international FIFA World Cup winner star also the FIFA Ambassador Christian Karembeu. Egypt is the 38th stop of the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola.
Following its arrival, the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy was greeted by H.E. Abdelfattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt during an exclusive event at the Al Manara International Conferences Center. Coca-Cola organized several activities taking place on both days to celebrate the Trophy’s arrival in Egypt including a consumer event held at the Cairo Festival City where thousands of fans were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy and take photos with it.
H.E. the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Eng. Khaled Abdel Aziz, praised the celebration stating: “The fact that the FIFA World Cup Trophy was greeted by H.E Abdelfattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt ignited a sense of pride and unity amongst the whole population. The nation became one, which is what sports is all about. This time is special for all Egyptians, whether we love football or not. The year 2018 brings Egyptians a lot of promise, it’s the year of remarkable achievements and reaching milestones. The FIFA World Cup Trophy sparked hope and emotion amongst the population who is now ready to cheer for its national football team.”

Seeking to constantly showcase Egypt’s historical and touristic attractions, the FIFA World Cup™ original Trophy departed to Egypt’s blissful resort by the Red Sea, El Gouna, to unmask one of the most beautiful touristic destinations in the country. While the Trophy has previously been hosted at the Cairo Citadel and the Pyramids of Giza, El Gouna was chosen this time to exhibit Egypt’s other concealed treasures.
Showcasing the nation’s unity and pride and in celebration of the national team qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Egypt’s Top TV talk show presenters from the Egyptian National TV, ON TV Network and DMC hosted the Trophy together during an exclusive live show. This TV experience was the first of its kind to ever occur in the history of TV channels in Egypt.
Ending the FIFA World Cup™ Original Trophy’s Egypt visit on a high note, a star-studded gala dinner was organized in El Gouna to celebrate the end of the Trophy’s two-day stay, attended by the country’s most iconic public figures, celebrities, media representatives and sports icons including Hazem Imam Member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Federation, Samih Sawirs Founder of El Gouna Resort, Major General Ahmed Abdallah, Red Sea Governor.
The FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola kicked-off in September 2017 in Russia and will visit more than 50 countries across six continents, travelling 126,000 kilometers in the nine months leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup™. Within Russia, the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will visit 91 cities – the longest host country tour in history – with one out of every three Russians having the opportunity to experience the Trophy in person. The Trophy left Cairo for Naples, Italy for a quick Euro tour before crossing thousands of miles and landing in Argentina.
