Sparkle is back! Thank goodness this trend is back for the holiday season or did it really ever leave? Glitter, sparkle, shimmer, sequins, anything sparkly and shiny is a must-have this season. The glitter trend has been seen on runways this season and high-end fashion brands are embracing the trend; YSL showed a pair of $10,000 silver crystal boots for the fall season. If you’re not in the market for expensive crystal boots you can definitely get in on all the fun with glittery clothes, accessories, and makeup. Below is a list of ways to get festive and keep the holidays going all the way until spring.
Body Glitter
Ready to hit the town? Body glitter is definitely a must this holiday season and is a great way to accessorize as you hit the ground running. It is easy to make your own body glitter if you can’t get your hands on a commercial one. Body glitter can be applied anywhere, but a good trick is to first apply Vaseline as a base coat. If you want to make sure it’s going to stay put until the last song of the night, then use hair gel as a base instead.
Lip Glitter
If your favorite color is shiny then a glittery lip is just the amount of extra you need. Many lipsticks, glosses, and liners come in sparkly collections, especially around the holidays. If you want a DIY version, then layer glitter on your favorite lipstick to make your own festive holiday lip-kit. Apply a cream lipstick first, then use your finger to firmly press glitter into place to get your pucker ready for the mistletoe!
Glittery Eyeliner/Eyeshadow
For a subtler way to incorporate some pizzazz into your make up routine, a glittery eyeliner or sparkly eyeshadow is just what the holiday fairies have ordered. When using glitter around your eyes it is a good idea to go with a cosmetic brand as serious damage to the cornea can be caused by the wrong kind of glitter getting on to the eyes’ surface. Bobbi Brown’s line of sparkly eyeshadow in sultry shades like champagne, lilac, and sultry gray, or MAC’s 3D glitters are the perfect way to make a statement.
Glitter nail polish
As if manicures and pedicures aren’t luxurious enough add some glitter to your next one to make it extra special. If you’re not ready to jump in full sparkle, then opt for a micro-glitter that gives a uniform shimmer effect. Try Essie’s (over-the-) top coat collection and don’t forget a double layer of clear top coat polish so your polish has that extra hold and smooth texture.
Outfits
This fad doesn’t only work for makeup and accessories. Clothing items as well are emerging with bedazzles, sequins, and shimmer ready to be glammed up or dressed down depending on the occasion. Choosing a sparkly body-suit worn under skinny jeans is a great way to mix and match textures. Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.
