1980: “In 2018, I bet there will be flying cars!”
Careful what you wish for.
When it comes to cars and their performance, there’s nothing quite exciting or exhilarating than speed.
And as far as speed is concerned, Tesla’s new second-generation is going full steam ahead, from 0.60mph in 1.9 seconds, making it the first car to accelerate to this speed in under two seconds!
The electric car’s top speed has been set at 250mph+, which makes Tesla Roadster faster than Koenigsegg CCR, McLaren F1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari.
Thanks to its 200kWh battery, Roadster 2.0 will have a range of 997km on a single charge—double what the Tesla Model S offers.
The base model of the Tesla is offered at a steal price of—gasp—$200,00 and the Founders Edition will set you back even further $250,00.
“Red car for a red planet”
In some futuristic sci-fi parallel universe, CEO of Tesla Elon Musk is launching his very own red Tesla Roadster to Mars—January 2018.
The SpaceX chief executive has unveiled plans to put its first Falcon Heavy rocket into space next month, shooting off from the same Florida launch sites as the Apollo 11 mission.
The spacecraft will be carrying the billionaire’s Tesla Roadster orbiting around Mars and exploring in deep space for a “billion years”.
“Payload will be my midnight cherry Tesla Roadster playing Space Oddity. Destination is Mars orbit. Will be in deep space for a billion years or so if it doesn’t blow up on ascent.”
