Pamela Love
By Kate Dannies
Pamela Love has come a long way from making jewellery in her Brooklyn apartment. Love began crafting her exquisite pieces at home in 2006, and has since expanded to a dedicated studio in Manhattan’s fashion district. She has collaborated with the likes of J. Crew, Zac Posen, Opening Ceremony and Topshop, among others.
Although her brand has gone from strength to strength, Pamela has kept it real by ensuring that all of her stones are ethically sourced and that as much of her metal as possible is recycled. She is also committed to local production: the majority of her designs are executed at her Manhattan studio.
A native New Yorker, Pamela was not always drawn to fashion. She studied film and her first job was as a painting assistant and art director to famed artist Francesco Clemente. While she has since moved into the realm of jewellery, her background continues to inform her design process and inspire her pieces, which are simple yet deeply thoughtful and artistic.
Her designs have a spiritual quality, drawing inspiration from the Native American colors and textures of the southwest. She is also informed by astronomy, biology, botany and alchemy, influences that give her designs an elegantly organic quality. Other references found in her collection include NYC architecture, North African tribal patterns, Mexican art, and European iconography. Her style can be summed up in two contradictions: urban yet ethereal and modern yet ancient.
Pamela Love’s designs are highly wearable yet deeply special; the type of pieces you can’t wait to put on in the morning. Her rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets can function as both statement pieces and accessories depending on one’s personal style, and a monochromatic colour palette of black and gold shot through with brilliant turquoise, silver, and jewel-toned stones makes the pieces versatile.
We love her double-finger statement rings with turquoise accents, geometric bib necklaces and pendant earrings that have a global jetsetting look. Cutout cuff bracelets make a stylish statement as well. Preppy as well as alternative fashionistas will love these looks: from gothic skill motifs to simple clean lines, Pamela Love has done it all.
Feel the love of carefully crafted artisan jewellery made in New York with Pamela Love; trust us, this is one you won’t want to miss.
