Menna started designing furniture in 2010, where she first created a pouf and a stool; they were then chosen to be exhibited at the +20 Egypt Design Platform, which was held in Bait Al Suheimy. It was a great jump-start for the designer and she’s been designing her own pieces ever since. Menna founded her own company in July 2011, and was later joined by her sister, Alia–who has a passion for home accessories–earlier this year.
As summer’s heat is waving in, Bagua welcomes the beach season while offering unique pieces for those warm months. Celebrating the beauty of coastal living, Bagua is all about “fun in the sun”this season presentingan array of pieces varying from colorful patchworks to savvy kilims available for immediate purchase. All while maintaining practicality and comfort for some summertime ease.
“I want people to look at my work and feel happy when they see the pieces, so I try to use as much color as I can. I mix and match different fabrics and materials together to achieve this joyful summery look,” adds Menna.“Also my products are all Egyptian-made,” she adds“starting with the fabrics, the prints, dyes and the craftsmanship as well. Surprisingly I don’t have a certain class nor age group that I cater to. I have clients from all ages and relatively different standards and backgrounds.”
So what does “Bagua” mean? The Bagua is a Chinese color map with nine boxes. Each box represents a specific life symbol that can be connected with a specific part of your space. By using this colour map to arrange your space, you can create a positive flow of energy and improve your quality of life.
Bagua is the first Egyptian shabby chic furniture boutique with a vintage look selling only locally produced items. The mission of the store is to encourage the Egyptian production while adding a sense of style to the market.
