Even though they come from the same world of fashion, these two women coming together is somewhat unexpected. I’m talking about supermodel Gisele Bündchen and renowned fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.

he reason these two household names came together is all for a great initiative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Green Up, a t-shirt line to support deforestation in Europe, designed by Westwood and modeled by Bündchen. The t-shirt line is exclusively available on yoox.com, a website that has long supported–and promoted–eco-friendly, sustainable design and fashion. In addition, yoox.com hosts the YOOXYGEN initiative, donating all proceeds from the sales of Green Up t-shirts to replanting programs.
For each purchased t-shirt, a tree will be planted. The motto is: “buy a t-shirt, plant a tree,” making it a simple way for everyone to get involved in turning this planet into a more sustainable one. “The antidote to consumption and climate change is culture. It’s art,” said Westwood. Furthermore, she added, “it’s a way of thinking. We are dangerously short of culture and of people’s appreciation of what is actually a good life.”
The print t-shirts designed by Westwood each have a scan code where more information on the Green Up program turns up when scanned. They are designed to provoke and inspire a new way of thinking.
The project aims to spread awareness in Europe about deforestation and encourage everyone to contribute to a more sustainable economy.
Known as an eco-conscious advocate, a UN Goodwill ambassador, and Best International Green Celebrity Award winner, it is no surprise Gisele is involved in project like this.
Green Up aims to spread the word across Europe–and the world–about the forest systems that are vulnerable to climate change, which affects both, wildlife and the supply of water to cities, companies and communities.
